Call for Artists
Pittsfield, Mass., February 1, 2010
A “Call for Artists” has been issued to fine artists and craftspeople for the 6th Annual Pittsfield Art Show, to be held July 17-18, 2010, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. under the tents at Palace Park on North Street and Renne Avenue in downtown Pittsfield.
Applications and information may be downloaded from the Pittsfield Art Show website – www.pittsfieldartshow.org. The printed prospectus and application will also be available at the Lichtenstein Center and the Berkshire Athenaeum, or by mail from Downtown Inc., 413-443-6501.
Completed applications with three images (8 x 10 or 8 ½ x 11) of representative work must be postmarked by April 1, 2010 in order to be considered. Images will be juried during April, and all applicants will be notified by May 1.
For the second year, The Pittsfield Art Show is presenting an Invitational, a month-long gallery exhibition at the Lichtenstein Center for the Arts, 28 Renne Avenue. The juried Invitational is open only to artists accepted into the weekend art show. The exhibit will run from Wednesday, June 23 through Sunday, July 18 with an Opening Reception from 5 – 7 p.m. on Friday, June 25. The Invitational gives the public a preview of the outdoor show, and offers the selected artists an opportunity to display work that could not be easily be exhibited in an outdoor environment.
The jurors include Stuart Chase, Director, Berkshire Museum; Stephanie Hoadely, Owner, The Hoadley Gallery, Lenox; Jonathan Secor, Director Special Programs, MCLA, and the Berkshire Cultural Resource Center.
According to Steering Committee member Don Clark of the Ferrin Gallery, “Pittsfield will be THE art destination to be on the show weekend.” Clark expects more than 75 artists from all over the east coast to participate in the outdoor art show which has grown in size, attendance and sales every year since its inception. The show will feature artists working in all mediums of painting, fine art photography, printmaking, hand-made jewelry, ceramics, wood, sculpture, glass, collage and fabric art.
As an added draw for the thousands of people expected to attend the show, the Pittsfield Art Show is adding late afternoon Open Studio walking tours to highlight other downtown artists and art galleries. With Pittsfield’s growing mix of restaurants and entertainment venues, visitors may want to linger into the evening for a richer summer cultural experience.
The mission of the Pittsfield Art Show is to present a high-quality, outdoor summer show of fine art and crafts to make downtown Pittsfield an art destination. In addition to providing a venue for regional and national artists, the Pittsfield Art Show serves as a vehicle for local, emerging artists to get experience in marketing and selling their work in a supported, safe setting.
The Pittsfield Art Show is a joint project of the City of Pittsfield’s Artscape Committee and Office of Cultural Development, Downtown, Inc., and the Berkshire Art Association in cooperation with RSVP and the Store Front Artists Project. Major underwriting is being provided by The Berkshire Eagle with additional generous support from local businesses.
